will it make any difference if you leave the camera with the fingermarks on the lens? does this mean your pictures cannot come out with great quality, as compared to when you clean it?

My friend is always messing with my canon powershot without asking. Tonight she just left and now I noticed the lens has a huge smuge all over it, and all the pictures I take are now turning out blurry.
How can I clean off the lens without scratching it?
